Start of my journey

Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Happy Halloween. Sitting in my favorite coffeeshop in Alabang, waiting for my cousin. Will be going to the Cemetery tonight for some ghost hunting. Just kidding. Will be visiting Mamay & Papay's grave with the rest of the family.

**Traffic for sure.**

==============

Just a quick blog for the month end.

Today I:

  • Chose to move forward
  • Became excited for new beginnings
  • Started saying "good" farewells
  • Discovered my blind spots
  • Learned to be different
  • Showed my loyalty
  • Accepted feedback
  • Was constructive
  • Shared my dreams
  • Looked for answers
  • Was amazed how things fall into place
  • Acknowledged the fear
  • Laughed hysterically
  • Apologized sincerely
  • Showed humility
  • Appreciated the gratitude
Can it be in the new blog header? I'm shouting to the world, proclaiming, saying that I'm looking for my dreams.

This is definitely a good start to my journey.

About this blog

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

With the changing of my header (thanks Maeyo), I'm also changing (in some way) my blog theme. I'm no longer a car salesman (this was how my old blog used to look like)!

========

This blog is about my dreams.

I'm now focusing on my goals. What I look for, dream about and what passion means to me.

This blog is about what inspires me.

How others touch my heart and feed my soul. I love to blog hop and learn from others. I intend to share these blogs with you. Document them, go back to them when it becomes important.

Click on Links and Blog Hop for samples of what inspires me.

This blog is about my adventures.

And mis-adventures as the case may be. :) Because I love discoveries. And I want to try new things. And to discover new places.

This blog is about the Goddess in Me, waiting to come out.

I am a Goddess, Watch me Soar.

This blog is about my Gondola ride.

How I intend to reach it. What I need to do and how I need to be.

This blog is about me.

On who I am. How I feel. Where I want to go. What I really want to do. What makes me happy.

And though I anticipate to stumble and fall, I know it's because I'm human. I know I'll rant at some point because I have feelings. And make mistakes along the way, because I'm learning.

Thank you for being here. Journey with me. :)

Of birthdays and parties

Sunday, October 28, 2007

Happy birthday Kris! Don't worry about getting old... nasa Lotto ka pa rin naman eh! Hahaha!

========

It was a simple celebration. Harv cooked the only dish he knows - some sort of pasta. Harv's folks came over and brought litson (talap) and I bought cake. Kris' mom bought utensils, because Kris and Harv just realized that their house is built for two (plus me - mga extra, extra stuff lang, hehe). This is the first time they're holding a "party" in their house, and had limited plates, spoons, forks, glasses, pang sandok and stuff. They got wine glasses for their wedding though, hehe. But that was about it. I now understand the importance of a bridal registry! :D

Anyway, it was made a dash more interesting with the new toy Harv "nenoked" from his office. The Nintendo Wii.

Check out Perrine, Harv's oh-so-funny-screams-like-a-bading sister who, it seemed, was the ideal Wii customer!

How cool! Fernwoods has a South counterpart called Fernbrook! And look! They have a gondola ride that takes you from the chapel to the reception! Coolness!

Maeyo just created a new header for me (just haven't been able to put it up yet because haven't had the time) that included a gondola. How SWAK! :D (Maeyo, the image for the header's at the office :( will be able to send to you by Tuesday. I tried it the other day, but there were some errors that came up. Will upload/send/change my header asap) .

Anyway, found out about Fernbrook because this years WAW Christmas party will be held there. I'm not as active in coordination for quite sometime since the September (last wedding). Maybe something will come up on Dec/Jan when things get less hectic at work.

*Cross fingers*

Long weekend upcoming! Yay!

Am I geek enough?

Thursday, October 25, 2007

I've just discovered the Apple iPhone last week (same time I discovered Bizu)! I so want it. Maybe because before I settled for my Dell Inspiron Laptop, I was raving about how sleek the Apple Macbook was and how my eyes would get wider just by looking at it! But at the end of the day, I was happy and content with my Chiko - that's my laptop. It does the job, and that's what matters. But now the iPhone! Huwaw! Harv's saying he has a friend selling it for P15K ONLY! In the stores, it's going for P25K. So OMG! I am so-ooo interested.

What do YOU think of the iPhone? Is it worth it? I'm thinking wait till they fix whatever bugs etc. But I don't know. Help me decide...

Hmmm... Think... think...

Ninang na naman?

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Isn't he adorable? :)

Last Sunday, I attended the christening of Baby Joseph Christian Coloma. No, I wasn't Ninang. Just proxy this time. :) It was my first time to attend a seminar specifically FOR the godparents. (Kahit proxy, kailangan mag attend). I forgot most of what was said (I think the purpose of me attending was so that I could inform Maeyo about what they were teaching. Oh crap. Sorry, Maeyo!) Anyway, I know naman that Maeyo will make a good Ninang. :D

And to think, for all the six times that I'm the Ninang (hmm, tama ba figure ko.... let's see.... Brian, Luigi, Sean, Joey, Marco and Julia) I've never attended a how-to-be-a-Ninang seminar. Hmm, I thought Ninangs were the ones who were required to give gifts... (I wasn't a good Ninang in that case either!)

With the rest of the Ninangs, were most of us were proxy anyway!

With Baby Christian and Mommy Tina

Anyway, congrats to Tina and Joseph and welcome Christian to the Christian world! :D

A solution

My root problems are:

  • Not enough Money
  • Resistance to go outside my comfort zone
  • Resistance to change
My solution is: Think Outside the Box.

==============

I am beyond tired. I thought that living in Manda would mean that I can sleep early, wake up later, get to work on time. But with the high parking rate I experienced last week (i.e. I paid more for my parking weekly rent, than for my own weekly rent!) I tend to come home later, leave earlier JUST so that I get charged lesser hours. That just means, I'm more tired. Not helping.

I tried leaving my car at work, since I have free parking, but then it becomes a hassle getting to work. Gosh, ang daming sakay, that sometimes I take the taxi anyway! Which is also is a hefty amount for a short distance.

So yesterday, I looked for solutions. And I found one. Not the best, but for now it will do. I get to try it out today. Here's what I plan.

After all the things I have to do for the day, I will leave my car in TPT. This is a building along Edsa and Boni Ave. From there, I can ride a jeep going to Libertad (mga 5 mins) and then a trike to Cali Garden (another 2 or 3 mins). On the way to work, I do the same route.

TPT is actually a client, and right now, I've made pretty good friends with the admin. After a lot of "bola" and begging, he's agreed to let me park there. That brings down my nightly parking budget to commute budget by 80%. Not bad, right?

Hopefully this method *works*.

If not, I need to look for new solutions...

As I said... Think out of the box...

Indulge me

We've just had lunch in Gerry's grill in Promenade in Greenhills. We weren't happy with the service we got (the waitress was chewing gum while assisting us to our seat, the table next to us were a group of teenagers who were too noisy - and ended up not eating anything - and we got irritated, another waiter came to take our order, the food took time to be served so we asked for the drinks first, after which the gum-chewer asked for our orders again because they misplaced our order - oh and she blamed the first order taker saying he was a newbie, and the leche flan we ordered didn't arrive!) This was past 2 already, and there was not much customers. So obviously disappointed we went to have our desert elsewhere.

Our disappointment ended the moment we entered Bizu. The shop was light and airy. The attendant knew her stuff, and the cakes... ooh the cakes were a sight! My mouth was watering the moment I saw them!

I tried the Macarons de Paris sample and simply swooned. I mean if the macarons tasted like this, what more the cakes!

We ordered the "Samba" (choco cake) and "Mango Chiboust" (mango cheesecake) along with coffee and hot choco.

The moment I tasted the Samba, it was as if I died and went to heaven. It was *that* good! The chocolate was perfect! The serving size just right. Aack. My mouth is watering just remembering their cakes.

When I tasted the Mango cheesecake, I just blurted out that I wanted to cry! Haha! Kris and Harv laughed like there was no tomorrow. Gosh, sugar makes me so corny. And mababaw!

I wait for the day when I get to order myself a whole cake. Hmmm.. any celebrations out there I wonder?

When do I see you again, oh Bizu? I'm so drugged.

(9th UPDATE) Eight killed, 89 hurt in Makati mall blast

As reported by ABS CBN Interactive
Eight people were killed while at least 89 others were injured after an explosion ripped through an upscale mall in Makati City Friday afternoon.

Red Cross and police officials said 56 people injured in the blast were rushed to Makati Medical Center while 33 others were brought to Ospital ng Makati.

In a press conference, Philippine National Police chief Avelino Razon said the blast in the Glorietta 2 ground level at 1:30 p.m. was "probably caused by a bomb" and not a gas leak as earlier reported.

"This was a bomb. But beyond that we can't say anything else yet because we are still investigating. What I can say is it was not LPG that caused this," Razon told reporters.

He said there was still no conclusive evidence to determine if the blast was caused by a C-4 bomb, a military explosive, or any other improvised explosive device. He added that the police cannot definitely say if the explosion was a terrorist attack.

Director Geary Barias, National Capital Region Police Office chief, said bomb debris carpeted a 200 square-meter area in the mall. "The ceilings are damaged and may collapse," Barias said.

The explosion ripped through the roof of the mall and damaged nearby shops. Debris from the blast were scattered on the streets.

A general alert has been issued for the rest of the city and for the international airport, officials said. A meeting of the National Security Council was called for later in the day.

Barias placed all police units in Metro Manila on full alert status and ordered district offices to put up more checkpoints in the metropolis. He added that he will order more policemen deployed in nearby malls to maintain peace and order.

"We will send policemen to other malls to restore order especially here in Makati and to prevent any untoward incident," Barias told reporters.

The blast, which occurred during lunch-hour, spread panic in the city of 12 million people, which has in the past been the scene of attacks by Muslim separatist rebels.

Several shoppers said the blast was heard from a nearby baby store in the mall. Liana Navarro, sister of Black and White Movement’s Leah Navarro and who was in the mall with her mother, said several people including children were seen with “obvious injuries.”

Another witness, Arel Vertucio, said the explosion was so strong that it was felt up to the third level of the mall. Vertucio said he saw some people lying on the ground.

Eyewitness Icy Marinas was only 15 meters away from the Glorietta explosion when it occurred. She said the blast felt like an "intense earthquake."

She said she saw a pregnant woman crying after the blast while other women started rushing out of the mall with their families. She added that she saw "three bloodied men" near the blast site while the security guards just stood around with no reaction.

Charlie Nepomuceno, an employee at the Glorietta mall, said the powerful explosion appeared to have centered on an escalator.

"It left a deep crater at the foot of the escalator," he said. "It also ripped open the roof of the building. I saw a man thrown on to the roof who had lost a leg."

He said a badly mangled body of a woman was near the escalator.

Manila has largely been spared a spate of bomb attacks by Muslim rebels that have plagued the southern Mindanao region. But it has been hit in the past. A series of bomb blasts in 2000 killed at least 22 people.

President Arroyo ordered the police to “leave no stone unturned” in its investigation on the explosion.

“The President is deeply saddened by this incident and extends her sympathies to the families of the casualties…She has also ordered the PNP to get to the bottom of things and to leave no stone unturned,” Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said in a statement.

Bunye said the President also ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development to extend assistance to the victims. With a report from Reuters

Are you saying goodbye?

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

Should I just make the first move?

If you say goodbye, should I let go?

Or do I fight?

Is there someone else?

Will staying where I am make things worse?

Or will it just pass me by?

Am I being paranoid?

Or is this gut feeling something to take a look at?

==========

But, I think the bigger, more important questions are....

Will I be pleased?

Will I be disappointed?

Will I be relieved?

Do I Care?

Reaffirmed lessons

Questions to ask myself when life isn't working:

  1. Am I in integrity? Am I living up to my word? In other words, when I say something, does it happen? Do I do it?
  2. Rather than focus on my B.S. (bull shit / belief systems), what is my essence? Am I living up to it? Am I being committed and responsible?
  3. Am I grounded? Does every little thing affect me? Am I not grounded on what's the here and now? Is the future worrying me, the past affecting me, rather than just living in the present and letting go?
  4. Finally, have I given? If I'm already living up to my word, and in my essence, already grounded, have I given - because giving is the fastest way to be happy. Giving 100% and life will work.
I re-learned these lessons last night. I forgot about them, but now I remembered. And what beautiful lessons to learn.

Would you prefer games

Monday, October 15, 2007

During the outing last weekend, we played the "would you prefer" game. They would give you 2 scenarios and you'd have to choose which you'd prefer. Can't be both or may ibang conditions. It's as is. The questions were really hilarious, and many of them says a lot about the person.

Here are some of the questions that I remember. (You can play this game as ice breakers, getting to know you's or wala lang games).

What would you prefer?
1. Dying young or living till you're 150 years old?
2. Guys to wear condoms w/ vinegar, or condoms w/ fish sauce (patis)?
3. Girls with glow in the dark hair in the hohum, or holographic boobs?
4. Work where you get 4x of high, or sex where you get 2x as high?
5. French kiss a camel for $500, or eat dog poo for $5000?

There are crazier questions, believe me. But it was a great ice breaker (you should try it!)

By the way, I included a poll of our favorite question. Participate! :D

A new environment

I said the other day I was going to change my physical environment. Today is day 1. I've decided to rent the Calim's spare room in California Garden Square in Mandaluyong. Yesterday I moved in, and it was eventful, to say the least.

Here are some of the advantages of moving;

  1. It is much, much nearer to work, as compared to Las Pinas;
  2. I get to save on gas;
  3. I get to live with friends;
  4. When I want to, I can go swimming (CGS has a pool!)
  5. I get to be more responsible (since kailangan makisama);
  6. I can talk to somebody else;
  7. My mobile landline now becomes more useful;
  8. I'm closer to the gimmick area;
  9. I'm very, very close to Aimee and Anne :) - practically 3 min. ride away;
  10. I'm farther from LP distractions (i.e. boys);
  11. The CGS environment already is a major plus (most of my needs are within the compound - laundromat, salon, ministop).
Of course, I'm also anticipating on:
  1. The house is not mine - kailangan makisama;
  2. Parking is expensive - P20 an HOUR - and it may not compensate for the gas savings;
  3. I'd need to leave my car in LP or at the parking in the office, if ever;
  4. I'd need to stay away from my LP house for longer periods of time;
  5. I can't just leave my dirty clothes, or underwear lying around andI need to clean up after eating;
  6. Kris will be leaving in a couple of weeks to go to US anyway so we won't be able to play;
  7. Although I've complained about my slow, almost nil internet connection at home, the fact that I was able to download episodes lately, means I will miss my internet;
  8. I would need to start looking for "kasabay" going to and fro Mandaluyong;
  9. I will be tempted to stay longer sa office because mas malapit sa inuuwian.
Anyway, this is a one month trial period. Will see what happens after.

==================

So now I only have to work on changing my blog template. :D
Will do in the next few days.

Kindred - my favorite scene

Saturday, October 13, 2007

It took me 4 days to download this episode. When I came back from my Eid trip earlier (more on this later), it was such a happy surprise to find out that my internet's not as bad as before (at least now, nakakapag download na ako ng episodes, hehehe!) Patience is such a virtue.

Anyway, the episode was "okay lang". It got a little mushy with Claire, Peter and Hiro having a love team. But Super-West is so-ooo cute. Didn't he resemble Smallville's superman in this scene?

I'm wondering what happens to Sylar next.. hmmm.

time for change

Wednesday, October 10, 2007

Need to change my blog look (got feedback from Mom and Maeyo that they get headaches after reading my blog) hehe. So with the help of Ate Buntis, I'll be changing my overall template. (As much as I love the butterfly theme, it does get old). I've been seeing some features in Wordpress that I like, and I've been researching that I can copy it in blogger as well. But quite a hassle, complicated and a lot of work, frankly. Will see...

Need for change in my physical environment temporarily. More on this within the next few days. Let's just say that I'm better off without distractions.

Checklist - then take action

What is Draining You?
by Bo Sanchez

Get Rid Of It If You Can.

I don’t intend to write a complete list of how you need to care for yourself. (I’ll do that in another article.)

But here’s a question I want you to ask yourself: What is draining you?

What person, thing, activity, group, habit, situation, and places in your life drains your joy and life and energy and holiness? What sucks your happiness?

If you can get rid of that draining thing, do so!

By doing that, you’ll grow up and have more life and energy for the right things that God wants you to do.

In other words, I’m asking you to set your boundaries.

Let me list the probable “draining” things in your life…

1. Take care of your emotional health.

o I spend a lot of time with “emotional vampires”—people who are so dependent on me, or those who are exceedingly negative, or those who emotionally manipulate me…
o I still hang on to a dead-end romantic relationship
o I don’t have close friends
o I watch too much TV
o I don’t have time just to rest and reflect, to read and plan

2. Take care of your family life

o My relationship with my spouse / kids / family is shallow
o I have a long-standing conflict with a family member
o My home environment is chaotic
o I feel I’m not a great mother (father, son, daughter…)

3. Take care of your professional life

o I don’t enjoy my job
o I feel that I’m not fulfilling my mission in my job
o I feel that my core gifts can be used elsewhere
o I can no longer work with my co-workers
o I don’t see a future in my career

4. Take care of your physical health

o I don’t eat the right food
o I don’t sleep enough
o I don’t exercise enough
o I have a vice that’s robbing me of my health

5. Take care of your financial health

o I let “parasites” depend on me instead of letting them stand on their own
o I have huge debts
o I pay my bills late
o I don’t know where my money is going each month
o I don’t have savings and investment plan
o I know I won’t have enough for my retirement and old age

6. Take care of your spiritual health

o I’m in bondage to an addiction that’s draining me spiritually
o I focus on my sin, not on God’s love for me
o I don’t spend time with God
o I lack a faith community of friends to support me
o I feel I’m not following my own moral compass
o I feel I’m not serving God and others

If you checked any of the items above, do something about it! Ask for help.

But don’t get drained to the point that there’s nothing to give anymore.

We are the champions!

I feel sorry for the UE Warriors. Their history has been 3rd placer for 5 years already. This season, they've been rooted to win. They had a 14-0 winning streak in the elimination round, apparently that hasn't happened for the last 14 years. During the elimination, they beat La Salle once. So they were expected to win.

The only two times that UE lost in Season 70 was in the Championship Round, the games that mattered the most! I mean, how can you not feel sorry for them.

And to top it off, this is a new Archers team. Last year, we didn't make it to UAAP because of being disqualified (panget ng record diba?) because of supposed cheating that happened the year before. So when they came back this year, most of the players were rookies. And yet they grabbed the gold. Talk about comeback!

Oh, and by the way, there was a 9 point lead (73-64). UE can rant that the first game was a fluke (1 point lead) but this one, definitely you cannot call a fluke.

So even if I feel sorry for UE (no UE jokes here; we can just go back to bashing Ateneo!) I feel that Archers fought the good fight. So, I'll hold my green head up high because this year, we've redeemed ourselves. *Sing now* We are the champions! We are the champions! *tee hee*.

Click on the image below for details of the game. :)

(By the way, if I get my stats wrong, please let me know. Most of these are hearsay. I'm not a big UAAP fan!)

For icing on the cake, I watched the Pacquiao-Barrera game with my relatives, with Manny winning the 12-round. Click here for the details. Hurray for a victorious Sunday!

A night with Duday

Saturday, October 6, 2007

Last night, I went out with Kris and Ian. It was a weird but interesting drinking session. This is the first time I hanged out with Ian, although not the first time I met her. She's the "best man" in Kris and Harv's wedding. I talked about her a little bit when I blogged about the wedding. Duday is Ian’s screen name in ABS-CBN where she has a couple of acting stints as either a chimay or a contrabida in telenovelas. Cool job diba? She's also a trainer and currently Kris' officemate.

Anyway, she's such a character. She has loads of stories to tell, about showbiz, people in showbiz, about work as a trainer, about her past love, and current life as a mom and wife. Oh, and here's the clincher. To top it off, she also told stories about her as a fortune teller / psychic. Apparently, she can read auras, energies, and whatnots. It's stronger when she's drunk. (Isaac Mendez, less the painting, i-statue?)

Now my logical brain doesn't believe her. (I told her that, and she says that she understands and almost nobody ever believes her at first anyway, including Kris). But that when she sees pictures in her head sooner or later it comes true. As an example, she predicted Kris and Harv breaking up, getting back together, getting married and having 2 boys. Now the two boys are hard to "predict", right? And if that happens, maybe I could believe that she does have a gift.

But just to humor her, and myself, I let her read my energy. (I'm blogging about this, para if it comes true, I will remember hehehe). Here's what she told me:

“You are not yet living your true self. You are living upto other people's expectations. You tend to contradict yourself because you over-analyze. In fact, you are contradicting yourself right now. You already know your truth when you were a child, but a "maternal figure" told you that you are to make other people happy. This belief stuck, and as a result you tend to live for others and not yourself. You don't show the real you because that contradicts with what others expect of you or see in you.”

At this point, I told her, I don’t know half of what she’s telling me. I don’t understand how to uncover my calling, and the real me. In fairness to her, I also told her, I can also believe that, but I don’t know what to do about it.

So she goes on to tell me that it’s because I analyze. I come from my head all the time. That’s why I’m always confused. (That makes sense).

I proceeded to ask her about my work. She said:

“Your work right now is not your calling; it's just something that gets you by. Your calling has something to do with traveling and making a difference. It has nothing to do with what you are doing right now. When you realize what that is, people will contradict you, and say that it’s not going to work. This will cause conflict because you have a tendency to do what people tell you. But eventually you will do that thing that is your calling and you will succeed in it. It’s a noble calling.

(Sounds like a missionary job).

It’s not a missionary job, and it doesn’t seem to be teaching either. But it’s noble.

(So it’s outside Pinas? When do I leave Pinas?)

You will leave permanently by end of 2008. This will come after an epiphany. You will leave when it becomes your decision to leave and not someone else. You are doing it for you. Otherwise, something will always come up.”

She proceeded to hold my hand. And told me about a picture in her head.

“You’re inside a restaurant with a group of people. It’s a small restaurant, and there’s tuna pasta. You’re wearing a ponytail, and you’ve got long hair that’s dry. There’s a guy with blue eyes, wearing a blue shirt and with a crew cut hairstyle. This guy likes you. And you know it. There are also some other blonde people inside the restaurant/table with you.

You’re sharing a polaroid picture with the people around you. In the picture is you wearing some sort of a headrest. The headrest is yellow, red and white with beads. You’re also wearing a bracelet. You look very happy in the picture, as if you have just accomplished something important. There is a black bald kid next to you. You look your happiest in this polaroid.”

At this point it started getting eerie. Maybe because Ian looked so intent. She didn’t seem as if she was pulling my leg. And maybe because it was such a distinct picture that she was telling me.

“I seem to be getting a Romanoff or Romanio in my head. Also Anastasia.”

(Movie? Vodka? Russia?)

We ended up with that. We were to call it a night, till next time.

=====================

My verdict? Well, maybe some part of this is true. Maybe I am bound to travel, search for my calling outside. Meet a guy who is into me, with blue eyes and a crew cut hairstyle. If that’s the case, I look forward to it. Who knows, the polaroid is true, and I’m happiest once I’ve lived it.

But in the meantime, I’ll choose to live in the now. My work may be a question mark, my love life non existent, and my purpose yet to be discovered. I’ll take the “live for myself” to heart though, because that I can control, although not understand yet. I intend to spend a few minutes of silence to meditate about it. And let’s see what comes up for me.

desktop tag

Maeyo tagged me last week, but I haven't been able to share my desktop. Because I was in the office and my desktop in the office was boring. But I'll share it anyway.

I told you boring. That's our company logo. And it's not a requirement to have our logo in our desktop. But I did it to set an example (as if) haha! Dati nga Mission-Vision pa talaga. I'm trying to commit myself to the company. And it helped before to always be reminded that I'm part of something bigger than myself.

These are my laptop desktops.

The first is mine (under my user name), and the second is for "guest" users. Both pics were taken during my Dubai trip last December. :) As a constant reminder that my dad is the greatest dad in the world for getting me this laptop during that trip! Hahaha! And the second to remind me of my family all the time. Not that I forget (even if I don't write as often as you want me to). I love looking at the Dubai pics. It's a rare, rare occasion to have everyone together.

All my desktop are clean. Para lang siyang picture. I hide all the icons para neat. May mga shortcuts lang kung saan saan.

I'm tagging anyone who wants to join. :D Maeyo's got all the instructions.

On my way to Singapore

My calendar looks like this.
Itinerary:

04:30am Wake up and get ready
05:30am Leave for airport
06:30am Check in at airport
08:30am Leave for Singapore - Philippine Airlines PR503
11:30am Arrive at Singapore. Meet Danna

==================

Hep.

That didn't happen. I'm sitting in a coffee shop in Alabang BLOGGING. Contemplating on my foiled Singapore plans.

Here's what happened.

My sister and her hubby planned to go to Singapore because Baj was to do some training there. They invited me to meet them there, so I planned my leave for it. I was excited coz I"ve never been to Singapore and it seems that most of my friends have been there. Plus one of my very good friends, Danna is there, and I couldn't wait to see her again. She even planned to take a couple days off just to spend time with me. Just before I confirmed my flight, Nana called to say that they're not pushing through. :( Apparently the class weren't filled up, so there was no training to do. I still had the option to go, but as Nana and Baj were my primary reason for going, I decided to push it back. I planned to go end of October instead, so that I could take advantage of the long weekend (and hindi masyadong tight ang leave). But even that didn't push through because Danna will be going naman to Australia our other friend. They invited me there as well, and I thought long and hard about making an Australia holiday instead.

At the end of the day, I decided that I'll hold on to the Singapore money for a while. It's more expensive to travel to Australia kse (3x the airfare alone). And although I could, it may not be the responsible thing to do right now.

So there. On a bright side, I was able to take a leave today from work since I got burnt out from the office. (A separate issue). Current rant is "too many cooks spoil the broth". Ah well...

On a brighter side, I think I'll use the Singapore money when my mom gets here. We could go to Boracay or Bohol or somewhere for a getaway. Thailand or Bangkok according to Ate, is cheaper. Ma, what do you think? Replace one travel plan with another...

another chismax?

Received this email. It sounds like another Malu Fernandez chismax.

=============

Here's the petition against the comment made on Desperate Housewives. You can sign the petition at the link below. its really offensive, especially for us who know better that our med schools produce good, if not the best, doctors. Though there are some diploma-mill schools, but that doesn't mean they can generalize or look down on our schools' reputation.

To: ABC
To the producers of "Desperate Housewives" and ABC:

We are writing to express concern and hurt about a racially-discriminatory comment made in an episode of Desperate Housewives on 9/30/07. In a scene in which Susan was told by her gynecologist that she might be hitting menopause, she replied, "Can I just check those diplomas because I just want to make sure that they are not from some med school in the Philippines. "

As members and allies of the Filipino American community, we are writing to inform know that this type of derogatory remark was discriminatory and hurtful, and such a comment was not necessary to maintain any humor in the show. Additionally, a statement that devalues Filipinos in healthcare is extremely unfounded, considering the overwhelming presence of Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the medical field. Filipinos are the second largest immigrant population in the United States, with many entering the U.S. (and successfully passing their U.S. licensing boards!) as doctors, nurses, and medical technicians. In fact, the Philippines produces more U.S. nurses than any other country in the world. So, to belittle the education, experience, or value of Filipino Americans in health care is extremely disrespectful and plain and simply ignorant. Many of the hospitals in major metropolitan areas of the U.S. (and the world) would not be able to operate without its Filipino and Filipino American staff members.

As Filipino Americans and allies, we band together to ensure that this type of hateful message should not be allowed to continue on our television and radio airwaves. Given the recent amounts of media attention that has been given to Michael Richards (against African Americans), Isaiah Washington (against gays), and Rosie O'Donnell (against Asian/ Chinese Americans), it is ridiculous that this type of hateful speech made it through various
screenwriters, the show's producers, the show's actors, and ABC itself.

We demand a public apology to the Filipino American community, and we demand the episode be edited to remove the ignorant and racist remark. We will not allow hateful messages against our community (or any other oppressed community) to continue.

Sincerely, The Undersigned

There was even an article in Inquirer about this. I wonder if we're getting a bit too touchy. What do you think? Check it out.

addiction, addiction

I just finished watching Season 4 Episode 1 of Grey's. Huli na ako sa balita, I know. Hard to get my hands on the show. And my goodness, buffering takes forever. Doesn't help that work has been hectic.

I actually started watching after office last Monday. But I couldn't wait for it to end, so now I had to do w/ the buffering all over again! Gosh that took forever!

But, oh my goodness... now that I'm done, I loved it! I loved the show. Drama, drama, too much drama. But I absolutely loved it. :)

Here are my fave parts:

The Mark-Derek scene rocked!

The break up scene of Meredith (I think she's really spoiled though) and Derek. Oh and now I can't wait for Ep. 2.

Oh and I got to watch the first 5 minutes of Heroes Season 2 Episode 2. Poor Peter... :( I'm looking forward to watch that as well.

I've also resolved to stop looking at spoilers. I will be patient and stop watching previews. I realized that last week, but I still did it today. (Damn it). Now I'm so bitin with both shows! So well, this is a spoiler. Don't be tempted if you don't want any spoilers.

Let's be addicted together!

I'd rather be green!

UE has had an unbeatable streak for the entire UAAP 70th Season. Today was the start of Championship Round with La Salle. Just moments ago, my colleague told me that La Salle won over UE with a one point lead breaking their streak.

Here's the results:
1st Quarter: 14-20 UE
2nd Quarter: 37-39 UE
3rd Quarter: 47-50 UE
4th Quarter: 64-63 DLSU

Talk about drama! I can imagine how it was like at the Big Dome! Which also goes to show. La Salle wins the game that matters most! Go Archers! Keep it up for Sunday!

Animo La Salle!

Yevka, you answered 29 out of 30 questions correctly!

Congratulations! Your score is in the 99th percentile. This means that if one hundred people took the test with you, your score would rank higher than 98 of them on average.

When we analyzed your test, we also discovered that when it comes to quantitative ability, you measure in the 100th percentile. This score indicates you have unusually strong abilities when it comes to solving numerical problems. If there is a numerical pattern to be found, you'll find it. You've got a knack for noticing when something "isn't right." Whether you're conscious of it or not, you have an ability to simply understand when something doesn't add up. Also, when it comes to splitting the check, doing taxes, or determining the number of fans in a baseball stadium, you're the one people turn to.

Before you jump to any conclusions about a score of 29, remember there's even more to a Brainteaser result than that! The Brainteaser test also indicated people's core problem-solving strengths — whether they're stronger when it comes to solving quantitative, visual-spatial, linguistic-mathematical, logic, or pattern recognition problems!

I'm also trying to figure out where I went wrong. Drat.

The Difference Between Strength And Courage

It takes strength to be firm.
It takes courage to be gentle.

It takes strength to stand guard.
It takes courage to let down your guard.

It takes strength to conquer
It takes courage to surrender.

It takes strength to be certain.
It takes courage to have doubt.

It takes strength to fit in.
It takes courage to stand out.

It takes strength to feel a friend's pain.
It takes courage to feel your own pain.

It takes strength to hide feelings.
It takes courage to show them.

It takes strength to endure abuse.
It takes courage to stop it.

It takes strength to stand alone.
It takes courage to lean on another.

It takes strength to love.
It takes courage to be loved.

It takes strength to survive.
It takes courage to live.

Last minute September updates! :D I have loads.

===============

Last Saturday (September 29), one of my good friends gave birth to David Antonio Miguel D. Martinez. Naks the name, diba! So EspaƱol! I luv it! Hehehe! I haven't met him yet, but his tita just sent me his pic. He's so adorable! Can't wait to meet him. :D

===============

My good friend Kris is leaving mid Month to the US for a training in her new office. Why this is such big news to me? Well for a couple of reasons:

  1. Mawawalaan ako ng "dumping" ground for a month and a half;
  2. My "work" events seems to coincide with Kris'. And I'm actually seeing an "up" movement in my work as well;
  3. I need to be making decisions myself, and let change take its natural course.
Congrats dude! Good luck to us!

===============

During our EO3Q meeting this morning, our boss announced that our company has already reached and exceeded last year's sales performance. A big hurrah to us. :D Pwede na kaya mag bakasyon for the last quarter? Wehehe! Ummm, I don't think so...

===============

I don't follow the UAAP saga ever since I graduated. Too bad for school spirit. But for some reason, news was all around me about this Season 70 of UAAP specifically about the La Salle-Ateneo rivalry. I started hearing about it when La Salle lost to Ateneo during the Sept. 9 games 2nd playoffs. Many of the Atenistas I met bragged about this win for a good week. It got more interesting when both teams made it to the final four, and were up against each other once again for the semis against UE (who is undefeated so far). La Salle was "twice to beat" with the first fight last Thursday. This basically means, if La Salle won, then they were up against UE. If Ateneo won, there would be another match to break the tie with La Salle.

During the Thursday fight, La Salle lost to Ateneo. A lot of chismax went on saying this was an "intended" loss, because the UAAP games (most esp. La Salle-Ateneo games) were a money making business. It made a whole lot of sense (not that I'm sulking that La Salle lost, as I mentioned, I didn't really care much for the saga). Money making, because had La Salle won during that time, then there was no tie-breaker round. With the tie breaker round, Araneta Collisium made money, ticket sales made money, the major advertisers would be endorsed for another day, and of course, the drama is better. It also helps that Ateneo and La Salle are the most popular rivals since goodness knows when. And their alumnis were major sponsors to the events. I don't know how true it is, but it made absolute sense for the players to be "bought" out so the money making guys, make more money.

Irregardless of, yesterday was the tie breaker. And after all the hoopla, La Salle will be fighting at the championship round against UE. Click on the image below for the blow-by-blow account of the explosive game.

I now look forward to rekindling my Green spirit. ANIMO LA SALLE! :D

I was supposed to be looking forward to a Singapore trip this October, but it got foiled. :( Blast my darn sister. (Joke lang!)

I'm thinking of where to go for a getaway. Hmm. What do you think? I'm thinking end of the month, para long weekend. (All Saint's / Soul's Day Holiday).
